Media, PA, January 13th, 2006: Powerweb Technologies today announced funding of
$400,000 by the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority to design and deliver the
Pennsylvania Automated Load Management (PALM) Initiative.
The Pennsylvania Automated Load Management (PALM) Initiative is a new innovative approach
to saving energy for Pennsylvania commercial consumers through the use of wireless technology.
Funded by Governor Ed Rendell and the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority, the PALM
initiative will provide grant funding to pioneer new energy management, energy efficiency and
renewable energy trading credit techniques for commercial consumers in Pennsylvania. The PALM
Initiative will enable commercial and industrial energy consumers to interface their existing
facilities to "real-time" market prices, "real-time" energy consumption, and time-of-use
utility rates. By establishing this intelligent link between the facility and the energy market,
commercial consumers will be able to lower energy costs by modulating energy consumption based
on "real-time" market conditions. The PALM Initiative will help consumers better manage and
control energy costs in order to prepare for dynamic market pricing after the States'
"price-cap" removal in 2010.
In addition, through the PALM Initiative Governor Rendell will pioneer the Nation's first
"web-based" aggregation platform to trade renewable energy credits derived from energy
management and control initiatives. Through the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act,
Pennsylvania Act 213, commercial consumers will be able to aggregate and trade renewable energy
credits based on the amount of kW demand reduction or peak kW load control they implement at
their commercial facility.
